IPL – Intense Pulsed Light
What is IPL?
Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) is a light treatment that emits light at different wavelengths to rejuvenate the skin. IPL can treat a broad spectrum of conditions by targeting pigmentation caused by sun damage and aging as well as vascular issues such as the flushing and redness from rosacea, red facial veins, and red birthmarks called hemangiomas. It is a great treatment to rejuvenate and refresh your skin.
How many treatments do you need?
IPL treatments are suggested to be done in a series of 3 to 5 treatments depending on the severity of the damaged skin or condition but IPL is not a cumulative treatment and results are seen after just one treatment.
What can IPL treat?
Pigmentation such as freckles and brown age spots, redness from rosacea, facial veins, and hemangiomas, red moles (flat or raised).
Is there any downtime?
There is very minimal down time with IPL when treating pigmentation. Redness may last for a few hour immediately after treatment but will then subside. The pigmentation targeted during treatment will gradually turn darker over the next 24 hours and slough off within a week leaving behind rejuvenated skin. When treating vascular issues such as rosacea the recovery can be as little as redness for a few hours after treatment to possible bruising depending on how aggressive the treatment. Treatment can be customized to fit into your lifestyle.
The Yag laser component:
The Yag component of the IPL targets deeper levels of the dermis and allows for treatment of deeper vascular lesions such as telangiectasias (facial veins), hemangiomas (red flat or raised moles or birthmarks) and leg veins.
Who performs the IPL treatments:
All treatments are performed by Jennifer Jahoo, Licensed Medical Esthetician and the Director of Medical Aesthetics. Jennifer has been successfully treating patients with IPL since 2003. She trained with renowned dermatologists in Boston and New York City earning her certification in IPL rejuvenation.
